Research Blog

The topic of my film is about how Dominican people live in the US without their father and only having the mother working both as mom and dad.  This issue happens not only to Dominicans but to many people living in the US. I recently surveyed my Mediastorm class and 9 of the students in class out of the 27 live with their fathers.  That is only 1 in 3.  The problem is very common and I was actually surprised that there was that many.

I don't have connection to this topic because even though I'm Dominican, I have lived with my parents here in the US and had never been separated from them yet. But I know people that do live with both their mother and father and have been separated from one or the other.  My interest in this topic is to find out how immigrants are doing so far in the US.

The research questions we will be exploring in this film:
  • How many children do not live with both their parents in the US?
  • How does immigration laws affected most immigrant children in the US?
  • Is US immigration policy dividing families?
